The Leo Düo was designed in concert with Haply Robotics, a Canadian technology company, winner of CODE LiFE Ventilator Challenge.
The Montreal General Hospital Foundation and the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Center (RI-MUHC), in partnership with the McGill Faculty of Engineering, launched the CODE LiFE Ventilator Challenge in March 2020 in response to the global shortage ventilator, and the need for a better life-saving device at a fraction of the cost of other devices.
The challenge was a two-week sprint to design a low-cost, easy-to-use ventilator to support patients suffering from respiratory distress. More than 2,600 registrations represented over 1,000 teams from 94 countries.

Voluntary Modes
BPAP Mode
The device supports pressure-controlled modes of ventilation. Pressure support ventilation is the primary mode (PSV) with spontaneous breathing (S mode). The operator controls include pressure sensitivity of the triggered breath, inspiratory pressure (IPAP), end expiratory pressure (PEEP). In S/T mode the device will switch to pressure-controlled ventilation when apnea mode is triggered. Along with the controls available in the S mode, additional controls include apnea time (15 seconds or user adjustable from 0-40 seconds) and inspiratory time.

Oxygen flow rate / volume provided to the patient. 95% pure oxygen at 5/LPM
